SJS Model 5 & Model 7 Pre/Power Amps

Just in is this very special Pre/Poweramp combo from SJS Electroacoustics, the Model 5 valve power amp and the Model 7 preamp, both in excellent all-round condition and complete with their manufactures flight cases. This pairing is rarely available on the used hifi market and to anyone who knows about the SJS meticulous attention to detail (with component and valve matching) understands how very special these amps are. The Model 5 power amp in particular is the “super enhanced”version with nanocrystalline transformers and fitted with Living Voice 300b valves.

The SJS Model 7 Line Pre-amplifier and Model 5 Power Amplifier are hand-built, premium hi-fi components. They use vacuum tubes (valves). These are fragile glass bulbs that control electric currents. They are prized by music fans for their warm, lifelike sound.

SJS Arcadia Model 5: A Class A power amplifier. This means the tubes are always turned on and ready to play music, giving you the best sound quality but using more power. It outputs 8 watts per channel using the legendary 300B output valve. It is entirely point-to-point wired without printed circuit boards for a cleaner signal.

SJS Arcadia Model 7: A line-stage pre-amplifier used to control volume and switch between different audio sources like a turntable or CD player. It uses NOS (New Old Stock) military-grade valves. These are old, unused valves made decades ago that are highly sought after for their reliability and tone.

Both units are designed by SJS Electroacoustics. They feature “zero negative feedback”. In simple terms, this means the amplifier does not correct its own errors by feeding part of the output signal back into the input. This design can sound more open and natural, though it is technically less “perfect” on paper. Because of the low power output (8 watts), the Model 5 works best with highly efficient loudspeakers (speakers that play loud with very little power).
